Jim and I have been friends for over 30 years and have many experiences together. Jim has been the official photographer for the International Steel Guitar Convention back in the days it wasn’t called International. Jim has been our staff photographer starting at the 7th Convention in 1978. He has held that title for every year and this year, 2010 will be no exception. His photos have been used by other Steel Guitar shows and many trade magazines. We have traveled to many Steel Guitar shows across the US and Hawaii. I had just cut my “St. Louis Blues” recording for Step One Records and we were in Honolulu and it was the best place to shot the front cover. We traveled all over Oahu trying to get the perfect shot. One with Diamond Head volcano in the background – even the Beach At Waikiki. We had exhausted our ideas and at the last minute we were watching a hula show on Kealakekua street in Waikiki and there were three dancers as part of a free show for the tourists. I looked around and Jim was not there…he had gone over to the three dancers and had talked them into posing with me at a waterfall background and we got our perfect shot! If you have my "St. Louis Blues" recording, now on CD you will see those three dancers and the waterfall. I owe it all to Jim! There isn’t room for me to tell you about all the experiences that Jim and I had taking photos. One more story. We were at the Clarion hotel, now the Millennium, and Jim got the strange idea of going up to the top of the hotel and get a shot of Busch Stadium. He kept leaning forward to get a better shot and was dangerously close to falling off the roof. I helped him get his shot by holding on to his belt so he could lean further out. That was a close one but once again, Jim further proofed that he would go to any length to get his “perfect shot”. I guess you can tell that I think a lot of Jim. And look forward to seeing him at several more Steel Guitar shows in the future. DeWitt "Scotty" Scotty St. Louis, Missouri |
| Jim is a swell guy, or, as
I like to call him, my 'fine friend and precious pal'. Jim and I go
back years, back to when the Convention was at the Chase-Park Plaza.
He has taken literally thousands of pics of hundreds of steel
players,
and often when ya see a pic in print, it is often one of Jims. He's also had an extensive collection of steels. I have several steels he's given me over the years. Russ Wever Kansas City, MO

If I had to put in writing the
many times I have said thanks over the years to Jim, we'd run out of
paper. His friendship is so dear to me and his endless
contributions throughout the years, often behind the scenes, makes
him a true legend to the world of steel guitar. I'm so proud to call him a friend. Love ya Jim Jerry Brightman Cuyahoga Falls, OH www.slidestation.com

To my Buddy Jim... I go way back as far as the Chase
Park Plaza... and I thought I took a lot of pictures!! Jim has been
my mentor in the photography world. He has taught me so much and I
so enjoy being his sidekick at the convention! He says I am getting
better at capturing just the right picture of all the players.....
and it is so much fun!

| All of you who have been to St.
Louis know this man. He is there all weekend from the very beginning
to the last note played, taking photos and documenting what's going
on. He told me that he usually takes about 700 photos per
Convention. I asked him if anybody has ever taken a photo of him and
he smiled and said no. So I did Kind Regards Walter Stettner Vienna, Austria

| Jim... we go back many
years. Too many for either of us to really admit to. In our
archives, we have pictures from the times you brought in fresh
lobsters, before the convention, from when you lived in Maine. Your photographs were great then and they are even better now. I'm proud to call you my friend and family. Michael Scott SteelRadio.com St. Louis, MO

| I can not tell you how much of a
pleasure it was for me to built this web site for my good friend and
mentor Jim Nelligan. He is one of the best photographers I've ever known. A true professional. About 5 years ago Jim renewed my interest in photography. I always said when the new digital world caught up with my old 35mm, I would switch over. I got the chance to use Jim's new digital camera, And I was hooked. I later call Jim and he told me what camera and which lens was the best for me. It was a lot of money but I knew if I didn't get what he told me I wouldn't be satisfied. And this year Jim couldn't wait to show me his new 10mm wide angle lens. You guest it, and with me having a very understanding wife, I've already got it and having a ball. Thanks Jim, Just for being my Friend. Danny Hammers Floral City, FL Webmaster

| Roy and I also wanted to
tell you that we are so thankful for you and all the work you do
with your camera! You take excellent pictures! At the convention, I asked you if you could send me a picture of Roy and Barbara Mandrell together on the stage and we weren't home a week and we had it! You never hesitated to take our card so you could send it to us. I am glad that Danny did the web site for you. Roy and I are thankful to have you as a new friend! You are my "pal" Jim. God's Blessings Roy & Laurie Ayres Riverview, FL |
